Please Nigerians, Prepare for Hard Times Ahead... CBN Warns

Guys, mind the way you spend money from now on oh...our economy is entering a critical phase...
The Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria has warned Nigerians to brace for a longer period of low revenue from oil sources, which would necessitate hard and uncomfortable choices.

The committee, at the end of its first meeting for 2016 in Abuja, observed that while the period of low oil prices, which started in 2005, lasted for a maximum of eight months, the current situation was expected to continue over a longer period of time.

The CBN Governor. Mr. Godwin Emefiele, further disclosed that
the development would necessitate huge sacrifices from Nigerians. Crude oil prices had declined from a peak of $114 barrel in July 2014 to $30.25 per barrel on Tuesday, January 26, 2016.
The CBN governor said since oil prices is on a steady decline, certain trade-offs would have to be envisaged and accommodated.

He said, “Consequently, it is imperative to brace for a longer period of low government revenues from oil sources, which would necessitate hard and uncomfortable choices as the economy transits to more sustainable sources of revenue, consistent with the economic realities and strategic objectives of the country. In the circumstance, certain trade-offs must be envisaged and duly accommodated.”

He added, “Consequently, the bank is fine-tuning the framework for foreign exchange management with a view to ensuring a more effective and liquid foreign exchange market, taking into account Nigeria’s strategic development priorities, with the policies being designed within an environment of regularly ensuring consistency with monetary and fiscal policies.”

He continued, “To this end, the committee once again urged the Deposit Money Banks to improve lending to the real sector as part of their patriotic obligations to the country, and enjoined the management of the central bank to continue to explore ways of incentivising lending to employment and growth-generating sectors, particularly the SMEs.”

Asked if CBN would consider forcing the banks to lend to the real sector, Emefiele stated that inasmuch as it would prefer that the DMBs should increase lending to the real sector, it would be practically impossible to force them to do so due to the fact that the banks were established to make profit.

Emefiele further revealed that, “We don’t have any immediate plan to devalue the naira. However, we are already working on different scenarios; the models are being worked on.”

On the introduction of the N50 stamp duty charge, Emefiele explained that the decision was taken to support the Muhammadu Buhari government in its bid to generate more revenue due to the drop in oil prices, and build some very important infrastructures that would be beneficial to all Nigerians.

Because of N50? Traffic Officer Knocks Out Motorist’s Teeth

There was pandemonium at Omole bus stop on Oba Ogunnusi Road in the Ojodu area of Lagos on Tuesday after a traffic warden, Sunday Charles, engaged in fisticuffs with a motorist, identified as Kingsley.

It was learnt that Kingsley, who was stopped by a team of traffic officers at the junction, was allegedly beaten up by Traffic Man Charles for refusing to part with N50.

The motorist lost three front teeth during the brawl...

According to Punch, Kingsley and some people in the bus manhandled Charles and threatened to drag him to the Ojodu Police Division for the assault on the driver, before some pedestrians advised them against reporting the incident.

At about 11.30am, Charles, who was with three female officers and four officials of LASTMA, had stopped Kingsley’s vehicle at the junction. The traffic warden allegedly demanded N50 from the motorist before he could let him go.

It was learnt that trouble, however, started when Kingsley claimed that he had earlier given N50 to the warden, adding that he would not give him another until evening.

Charles, who allegedly insisted on collecting the money, was said to have dragged Kingsley down from the vehicle and punched him in the face, during which the motorist’s three teeth fell off.

Speaking with PUNCH, Kingsley said he refused to allow Charles to go because he had injured him.

The injured man said, “I am a commercial driver. The warden stopped me about 8am and I gave him N50. So, I was surprised when he asked me again.

“I was going towards Agidingbi Road when he stopped me. He demanded another N50. I refused, saying he should wait till evening. He dragged me from the bus and started punching him on my face.

“My mouth started bleeding. I realised three of my front teeth had fallen off. So, I grabbed his uniform. People bundled him inside my vehicle and said I should take him to the police station.

“His colleagues and LASTMA officials stood away during the altercation because he did not listen to them. I suspect the warden was drunk because of the way he dragged me from my vehicle.”

A pedestrian, Abiodun Dada, said other traffic wardens and LASTMA officials, who were embarrassed by Charles’ action, later calmed down enraged motorists not to protest against the incident.

But the Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, claimed that it was the motorist and his condoctor who assaulted the traffic warden, adding that Charles’ uniform was torn during the attack.

She said, “The traffic warden was beaten by a commercial bus driver and his conductor who are still at large. His service uniform was torn to pieces. He was rescued by a team of policemen deployed in the scene. The case will be dealt with decisively.”

Olisah Metuh's Associates Have Abandoned Him?

In what appeared to be a dramatic turn of events at the Federal High Court Abuja, the typically large crowd of political supporters and associates of the embattled Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, were conspicuously absent.

The scene was in stark contrast to the large number of his supporters who have previously gathered in front of the court. Even his entourage of political associates, who typically accompany Mr. Metuh to the court, were conspicuously absent in court.

The PDP Public Secretary is currently facing charges for his alleged collection of N400 million from the ex-NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki. He has been unable to meet the bail condition granted to him by both Federal High Court and FCT High Court.

Metuh has remained in prison since the first day of his trial when the court ordered that he should be remanded in the custody of a prison. At the resumption of the case in Abuja on Monday, he made the request for a variation of his bail condition but it has not been granted yet.

The prosecution has opened Metuh's trial with 16 witnesses lined up to testify against him in the case.

Enjoy Your Body & Your Money: What Men Do To Big Ladies

Once ladies are above the 20s, most become prey as they would've worked and made some cash...
The news of Ope’s scheduled wedding was a much welcomed one. At 31, she’d crossed over the conventional marriage age for young women and gradually hitting the single and searching category. As big aunts, many of us were already curious about her status and never failed to ask about the ‘bobo’ whenever the opportunity provided itself.

So, when we got the text message, inviting us to the Introduction Ceremony, I was elated. Ope’s day of glory was already a bit overdue, so it called for great thanksgiving and I was sure that her mother, a Lagos socialite by every standards will leave no stones unturned to make the ceremonies beautiful.

But the reaction I got when I placed a call to her
to congratulate her and find out details for the wedding took me off guard. It was not the type of reaction I had expected to get from her bubbly mum. At the end of her short speech, my spirit sank too. And though she did not give full details of why the ceremony must be a small and quiet one, I knew it was not for lack of funds, because there was no gain saying that she would make more money from the wedding than she would spend putting up the grand and fabulous show.

Some people are that blessed by the rot (corruption) of the Nigerian society and Ope’s mum is one of them. So, what could the matter be? I was not the only curious one but since we all could not come up with a reasonable excuse for such a decision, we decided that our questions can only be answered after the Introduction ceremony.

And boy, did we get answers?
The Introduction turned out a mini wedding held in their compound. All the wedding rituals including cake cutting, exchange of rings as well as the traditional wedding gifts were performed. Why the hush-hush? That Ope was conspicuously pregnant was not enough reason for this hurried packaging and shooing off like an outcast!

However, a look at the groom and those who accompanied him as family and friends was enough to tell anyone that all was not well. It was a case of ‘na only you waka come?’ as one could count the number of his team on the finger tips and still have a few left.

He neither had a father or mother, nor anyone who could stand in as representative of the family. He only had two guys later identified as his friends. Every time someone from his side of the family needed to talk, it was done by one of his friends accompanied by a group of Ope’s friends. At the end of the ceremony, many of us left feeling disgusted by the show of shame. Why didn’t she just pack into his house? It would have been better than this ke!

Right there, rumours began making rounds, providing answers, correct or fabricated, to the questions on everyone’s lips. The guy was not exactly single but available. Ope would be wife or woman number three. His first wife lives in Ibadan with their two children. But he also had another woman in Abuja who had a child for him while he was working there. He did not marry the woman. He met Ope through a mutual friend and offered her marriage.

Is Ope too old to get a clean and decent guy at 31? I had thought of her as a very intelligent and focused girl. With a good second degree and job, she had good life ahead of her. I never knew she could fall for such a scam. For it was clear to me that this marriage was a scam. These sort of guys are all over the place, scamming young women off their money and robbing them of opportunities to lead decent, respectable and happy lives. Many of these guys present themselves as semi single guys who have had raw deals in the hands of their spouses.

They cook up some spurious stories about their wives and how the women have betrayed them one way or another, or how the women have failed to live up to expectations as wives and mothers. Sometimes, the stories could be about their in-laws and how they have prevented them from living in harmony with their so called estranged wife. And because they live alone and are answerable to no one about their movement, their preys (the new women and victims) fall flat for these stories and begin to see themselves as the right people to fill the gaps in these men’s lives.

I have even heard of stories of how some guys have lured women out of their comfort zones, including marriages, into these traps by making them believe that they have some special gifts that could turn the life of these women around for the better just by being in their company. (sho!)

The more you look, the less you see, they say. In the same vein, the longer you stay in the company of these men, the less reasonable and rational you become in your judgement. Some of them sometimes descend as low as stage managing events to confuse and convince their victims. If you look hard enough, you will discover the fine details and pattern in most of these relationships. The bottom line is money! Many of these guys are not as comfortable as they present themselves to be.

They are seeking to add to their fortunes by exploring their manhood and manliness, and they know what we the women want. In most cases, money will exchange hands in the course of the relationships. The women will give off their money under the guise that they are helping to boost his business, or provide the platform for him to make more money. When he is done, he moves on to his next victim who is richer or better positioned to get him what he desires next. Thereby leaving a trail of emotionally traumatised and semi single women after them, each, clutching a child or two in their bosoms as gain for their investments.

I have come to the conclusion that all women are gullible when it comes to relationships with the opposite s*x and at some point in our lives we exhibit this gullibility. How low a woman falls will however be determined by the circumstances surrounding the relationship. That is why even the best of ‘Stanford Wives’ will fall for their juniors, handymen, staff and helps. If this were not so, many of the women who fall for these type of guys would not even be seen in their company not to talk of having intimate relationships with them.

These are women with credible and tangible sources of livelihood and can hold their own even amongst men. But the truth is that every woman wants to be told that she is beautiful and an asset to a man. Every woman, no matter how highly placed, intelligent or rich, longs for a man and nest of her own. How they go about getting them is what defines them as virtuous women of integrity.

I am not against polygamy. For it is shrouded in hypocrisy in our Nigerian society. Each man to his own cross and God for us all. Let no man cast aspersions and stones at another. However, what is being practiced here is not polygamy but immorality that is debasing the virtues of family life and parenthood. What this lifestyle is creating is a chain of young women who are neither married nor single and are being forced to raise their children alone, (double wahala for deadi body ala Fela Anikulapo Kuti) while these men continue to enjoy their lives.

We women must learn to shine our eyes at all times, especially when guys come crawling with crazy distress SOS stories and a disjointed lifestyle.

After three years of marital life plagued with acute infidelity syndrome and a chain of failed joint ventures that gulped millions of Naira, including some she borrowed from her mother, Ope's ‘fine boy’ hubby bolted with another woman leaving Ope in the love nest they shared with her two children.

She lost it when he reportedly told her to leave him alone and tend to her children like every normal woman he knows would do. He was said to have asked her to truly examine her life if indeed she lost anything from their brief relationship, rather than gain.

After all, he gave her marriage, a name and two children! Had he not taken pity on her, she would probably still be single and childless at 35! (Chai!!) To make matters worse, Ope recently found out that her ‘fine boy’ despite shacking up with another woman is still very much in touch with his first wife.

Ladies, please we need to learn not to believe all the sweet talk and pictures of guys traveling or chilling that they use to deceive us. When the chips are down, you will be all alone. Look well before anything.

- The woman (names withheld) who wrote this piece is very angry. I agree ladies should learn from this.

Abacha Loots: More Billions Coming Back To Nigeria

Hmmm....when will this Abacha loot finish sef?
The Nigerian Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, during an interactive session with the House of Reps Committee on Justice, revealed that the Nigerian government will repatriate more of the infamous loot held in foreign accounts by the late General Sani Abacha.

The amount to be received, the minister revealed, is $750 million (approximately N150bn). Another N2bn stolen by convicted criminal, ex-Gov of Delta State, James Ibori, is expected to be returned too.

The minister stated that: “In respect of the recovery of looted assets, the ministry will engage in an agreement waive policy of using mutual legal assistance agreements or other bilateral and multilateral instruments to seek cooperation with other jurisdictions to ensure the repatriation of illicitly-acquired assets in foreign jurisdictions.

“The collaboration will equally involve the engagement if foreign based counsel will attend to matters on behalf of the federal government. Low- hanging fruits being targeted in this initiative include $750 million Abacha loot as well as the £6.9 million of the Ibori loot.

“In the long run, the ministry will be in a position to coordinate the recovery of billions of dollars in foreign jurisdictions, based on current estimations.”

Marry Two Wives OR Be Arrested; Eritrea Gets New Law Over Shortage of Husband

Here in Nigeria we choose to live in self denial. Out of every 100 ladies between 21yrs to 30yrs, half are in a man's house, while the rest half are going to churches and night vigils, praying for husband. These ladies would have been second or third wives in the house of men who can take care of them but they chose to live in pretense. When they manage get married at 33... they will go and give testimony. Lol!

Wetin 'consyn' me? After polygamy was legalized in Kenya, another country has followed...
Mandatory polygamy by men in Eritrea is being received with a mix of bewilderment and excitement.
Activists have posted a memo by the Government of Eritrea asking men to marry at least two wives due to acute shortage of men occasioned by casualties during the civil war with Ethiopia.

The May 1998 to June 2000 Eritrean/Ethiopian war saw 150,000 soldiers killed from either sides but bigger impact on male population in the Eritrea nation who were then just 4 million people in total.
The statement assures of government support to the polygamous marriages.

The activists translate it thus, “Based on the law of God in polygamy, and given the circumstances in which the country is experiencing in terms of men shortage, the Eritrean department of Religious Affairs has decided on the following:

"First that every man shall marry at least two women and the man who refuses to do so shall be subjected to life imprisonment with hard labour. The woman who tries to prevent her husband from marrying another wife shall be punished to life imprisonment.”

A single lady praised their President, saying “He is so considerate of women! That’s good of him.”

Jose Mourinho Sacked As Chelsea Manager

Chelsea have sacked manager Jose Mourinho seven months after he led them to the Premier League title.

The 52-year-old Portuguese had been in his second spell at the club, taking charge in June 2013.

Chelsea finished eight points clear last season and also won the League Cup, but have endured a terrible start to their defence, losing nine of their 16 league games so far.

Mourinho's final match was Monday's 2-1 defeat at leaders Leicester City.

Pep Guardiola, Guus Hiddink, Brendan Rodgers and Juande Ramos have all been touted as possible successors

He leaves with Chelsea just a point off the relegation zone and 20 points behind Leicester.

Champions League qualification via one of the top four spots in the Premier League looks almost impossible.

However, the Blues are through to the last 16 of European football's biggest club competition, where they will face French champions Paris St-Germain in February and March.

Mourinho only signed a new four-year contract on 7 August and is Chelsea's most successful manager.

He won three Premier League titles, two of those in his first spell between 2004 and 2007.

The Portuguese has also won the FA Cup, in 2007, and the League Cup three times - in 2005, 2007 and 2015.

It has not only gone wrong in the Premier League for Mourinho, he has also had his issues off the pitch.

A 2-2 draw with Swansea on 8 August was overshadowed by a fallout with his medical team, in particular club doctor Eva Carneiro.

Carneiro had her role downgraded after Mourinho said his medical staff were "naive" for running onto the pitch to treat attacking midfielder Eden Hazard.

She eventually left on 22 September and is now taking legal action against Mourinho and the Blues.

Mourinho also received a suspended stadium ban and £50,000 fine for claiming referees were "afraid" to award his team penalties in a 3-1 home loss to Southampton in October.

He subsequently had to serve a one-match stadium ban and pay a £40,000 fine for his behaviour during a 2-1 defeat by West Ham, when he spoke to referee Jon Moss at half-time.
